The music from the Leiden Choirbooks should of course be heard, and preferably within the context in which it was originally sung. That is why the Egidius Kwartet is organizing an annual concert series at important former collegiate churches in the Netherlands.

The St.Peter’s Church choir generally consisted of eight singers and a couple of choirboys. Depending on the canonical hour and the occasion, the size of the group of singers would vary. In order to do justice to the repertoire and ensure broad tonal variety, the quartet has engaged a team of nineteen extra singers who will operate under the name Egidius College.

From the beginning, the Egidius Kwartet has worked with Etcetera Records (www.etcetera-records.com). This label enjoys considerable international renown thanks to its choice of unusual and distinctive repertoire. Both the label and the quartet have committed themselves to the release of six double CD’s over the course of the next few years. The CD’s will be on sale at the concerts.

The official presentation of the first 2CD will take place at the gala concert in Leiden on 30^th May 2010.
